Welcome!
I am a Southern California-based designer who loves making text beautiful, and I've been endeavoring to do so digitally for about 15 years, as Azbuka Design. This website is the online portfolio of my work.
I have always loved lettering. As a kid I studied calligraphy, and had an office in my bedroom, complete with a typewriter and a stapler. My favorite toys were signs.
In college I studied foreign languages. I'm fluent in German, can hold my own in Spanish, and have some degree of knowledge of around 10 other languages. I graduated in the top of my class and traveled to Austria with the Fulbright program. After that I started to get quite a bit of work teaching and performing music, so my Master's is in Music.
Quite a few of the graphics projects I have taken on over the years have been for bands or shows I was involved with; because even though my work life took a turn for the musical, I could never stay away from the written word.
Partly because of this, I'm in the process of switching careers from being a full-time professional musician and freelance designer, to being a full-time designer/editor/writer and freelance musician.
Please enjoy perusing my work ⏤ I hope it is as much fun to look at as I have making it!

I equally enjoy creating fascinatingly complex designs and beautifully simple ones. My heart leans toward classic design styles of the past (1880's - 1970's), but I feel perfectly at home working in up-to-the-minute trends.  Most of my work, as you will see throughout the site, is in typographic layout and logo design. Therefore, most of the photos and drawings contained in my designs were either given to me or found in other sources - these are credited wherever possible.
