These are from a series of multi-national monthly calendars I created. This specific design was borrowed from a calendar given away by a Thai Buddhist Temple; nevertheless it clearly resides in the greater spirit of those beautiful, old-school, two-color promotional calendars of yesteryear.
Languages featured: English, French, German, Czech, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Armenian and Old Russian.
Calendars featured: Gregorian, Hebrew, Islamic, Persian, Coptic, Hindi, Aztec, Chinese and the Darian Calendar for Mars. The calendar is meant to be a free promotional item for a fictional Martian newspaper (the spot ads are for fictional Martian businesses).
Just figuring out the labyrinthine layout for each page of these took almost a week of solid work.
In order to make them I had to create tables and tables of how each calendar worked, how to correctly spell or represent each one's day- and month-names, and what to put where so that everything was represented equally and beautifully. Tie for most difficult part was between learning how to properly write the Chinese date, and visually coordinating the Martian calendar with Earth's.
Many of the day squares also feature special fortune-telling words and symbols of my own invention - sort of like a verbal horoscope.
Here's one from the Martian perspective, with the Earth calendars running underneath:
